This book follows the destruction of Goddess worship in ancient Crete. How refreshing it is to see the past through a woman's eyes. The story is moving and sad, but well worth the read.
i don't know what to say; it's just one of the best novels ever written. should be read by every woman & girl alive in the world today. indebted to the author.
I like historic novels of ancient cultures. One's around Theseus and Ariadne were favorites. I enjoyed this book.

A wonderful depiction of the background to the onslaught on the ancient matriarchies by Theseus.
Too many readers seem to see Renault's depiction as defnitive. After reading that,I found it refreshing to find a female centred depiction of these events.
