Broadly, Beers' "Too Close to Touch" will resonate with just about anyone who has dealt with love and loss, regret and change. It is the multifaceted layers of life experiences that make fully developed 40-something characters exquisitely interesting, as well as often beguiling and seductive. This goes for male and female characters. That's who inhabits this book and who inhabit the lives of most readers. The two main characters of Gretchen and Kylie are distinctively different, fully drawn but each enormously relatable and likable, as are their friends and family. We all have issues. How we handle them, what stepping stone decisions we make along the way, is what males for a good story or not. That's a huge strength of this book. It's nice to have adult characters in real world settings of workplace and various shades of evolved extended family, which is where most of us live - especially women. It's a book for grownups. (Don't get me wrong, the fantasy lesbian fiction of jet setting overachievers and millionaires can be fun for a lark but often leave one feeling empty or spectating the unreachable rather than involved. The college-age angst and melodrama coming out also fills a niche but is what it is and becomes formulaic fairly quickly.)It's just a simple fact of life that 'ya gotta get some life mileage to gain the introspection for humor and healthy relationships, not necessarily in that order. In TCTT, there's still the lesbian bar, softball, and "must love dogs" touchstones but not such that it drags down the flow of the storyline or makes the characters seem immature. What most readers want and will find in TCTT is the parallel journeys that lead to passionate sex, epiphanies borne out of inevitable missteps, and the hope of a happy ending. This one has all that. It's one of the few works of lesbian fiction that made me want to revisit these characters a few years down the road.

Too Close to Touch Georgia Beers 9781933110479 Books Reviews
Gretchen Kaiser is an executive with a new job and a new assistant, Kylie O'Brien. Both women are aware of a mutual attraction, but both women are well aware of the inappropriateness of that attraction.
The author has written an excellent book about an all-too common issue in the workplace. How these two women handle the problems are the meat of this book.
Beers has created two very likable and believable characters that readers will root for them to be together. But she has not shirked the ramifications of what would happen if they have a relationship and (a) someone else found out about it or (b) one of them decides to break it off.
Beers has also written the perfect ending for this book. She has made Gretchen's final decision believable by allowing the reader to glimpse into the thought process that she goes through to come to her decision.
There is even a sub-plot about Kylie and her best friend, Mick, and what happens when a best friend falls in love with her best friend. The reader will ache for Mick.
Overall, a very interesting book with very interesting characters and a plot line seldom seen within the genre.
This was a good book. Not great but very good. And, thank God, not a single vampire, werewolf, alien, or angel in sight. Just what I needed. Real life, real problems, real solutions. I need to thank Georgia Beers for not being drawn into the vampire genre. Well done.
Georgia Beers has writen another romantic book that pulls at your heartstrings! I loved Too Close to Touch. This book was a very easy and pure pleasure read! This book brings a lot to the table. How far can a person in power push that ethical envelope even if love and happiness for both parties is on the line? The characters in this book are very real and believable. Gretchen Kaiser is a workaholic that runs a very tight ship. She expects and demands hardwork from all of her employees. She expects them to do more than just pull their own weight. Love is not part of Gretchen's business plan. Enter Kylie O'Brien, a hard-working, knowledgeable, dependable, and genuinely friendly assistant. Not mention that she is beautiful! Kylie, in time finds that love may be hard to achieve especially if it is her boss that she "wants". Gretchen has her own issues to deal with before she can really "Live Life". Will these two wonderful women be able to find the love that each one of them deserves in eachother or will ethics and don't forget jealous friends keep them apart? This book has it all humor, love, lust, family, friendship, and sex! We can't forget the sex...
Beers has created a truly romantic and sexy book that will defiantly stay in my collection to read again. It is well worth the read. Enjoy!
To Ms. Beers, thank you for sharing your writing talent with the rest of us. I look forward to reading your next book.
Really loved Kylie's character and was happy that she found happiness at the end. Gretchen had a few too many issues and I was kind of upset at how quickly she fell for Jori, especially if she had feelings for Kylie. I felt sorry for Mick's character, and would have liked to have seen her find her HAE too... Yet overall it was a great story which held my interest throughout, Georgia is a wonder author.
